The before and after process of the kitchen remodel.
Before: Despite its size, this kitchen had very little storage. The maple cabinetry had started to yellow with age and the 2000-era design felt dated. The original ventilation duct work and its wall vents precluded ceiling-height cabinetry.
After: The cabinets, counter tops, back splash, refrigerator and lighting were removed, and the duct work was rerouted. The appliances mostly stayed in their existing locations, but a built-in 48-inch refrigerator was added and the new microwave drawer was placed near the range. New painted white cabinets stacked to the ceiling feature lighted glass display cabinets along one side. The base and island cabinets are a rustic wood wit ha weathered finish. Island storage was enhanced with pull-out trash cans, drawers, and additional storage on the seating side. Under-cabinet and interior-cabinet LED lighting was incorporated, as well as new pendants over the island.
